This internship is made possible by funding from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
The purpose of this position is to allow the Intern to explore careers in libraries by assisting library staff with tasks related to community outreach, library operations, and direct patron service. During the internship, the individual will complete and present a Connected Learning Project to identify and explore personal interests related to work in the library. This position is an opportunity to understand and support community-engaged library work. The intern will work closely with Youth Services staff to assist with library programs and community partnerships.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of a Connected Learning Project. Projects must have a community-facing element and relate to the overall library goals (see examples below.)
- Plan and coordinate project milestones and identifying project resources.
- Document and present project outcomes and learning.
- Spend time writing about and reflecting on their experience.
- Attend meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
- Complete reports, surveys, and other documentation as required.
- Support Summer Reading Program.
- Support library staff on a variety of activities and outreach to the community.
- Meet regularly with the Community Partnerships supervisor and staff
- Observe library operations, engage in library training, and conduct self-directed learning exercises
- Represent the Public Library in programs and with community partners
- Support and strengthen Community Partnerships section efforts
- Perform other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
